Guest stawarz Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Just wondered if anyone in the group has experienced something similar. Whenever the fuel gauge gets to about 3/8'ths full, the next morning when you start it then shows empty and the refuel warning comes up. On refueling only ~40 litres was needed to brim it. It's happened twice in the last 3 refuels. It's going in to the dealer next week for investigation so wondered if anyone else had something similar and what was the result. Thanks! Andrew Quote
Guest jtwonk Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Yes mine does do it , but this is mainly due to the car being parked on a down hill slope. If it is then parked on level ground & restarted the gauge reads the correct level. I think it's due to the shape & size of the tank when parking on a gradient the fuel is not sufficient enough to keep the float up & therefore to register on the gauge. Mine does this regularly if below 1/2 tank & I start the car & wait on the drive for a few minutes but once driving it eventually rises again. Bit of a bummer if it's the wife driving cos she always complains that I left the car empty again. :D B) Quote
NikpV Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Yes its a known problem with compatibility issus between fuel sender and instrument pod. Ford garage tried 2 instrumentation pods under waranty (18 months ago) before FORD told told them to wait for a fix. See thread here The Fix has just come out on the 4th April (tell your garage to look at their ... cant remember the technical term for ford notifications) of course the car is now out of warranty and when the garage first approached Ford they said they wouldn't pay a penny!!!! Eventually after faxing all the relevant paper work showing that Ford themselves stopped the work they agreed to pay 80% leaving us with a bill of Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 this exact thing happened to mine a while back, i found, after some experimenting that if you go on the flat, and restart, everything is normal, just like jtwonk said, i also found, that if your going along, with little fuel in, and brake sharply, the fuel needle goes right down, and 'please refuel' comes on. (note that mine is also parked on a slight down hill gradient) matt Quote
Guest stawarz Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Thanks everyone. When this occured, both times the car was in the garage (nice pancake flat painted floor). Oh well will be interesting to see what the garage has to say next week. Fortunately the car is still under warranty and it's funny how trouble comes in three's. Also going in for the high temp A/C (and now the compressor clutch gives a nice wail whenever it's enagaged) and a 10 mpg drop off in MPG (VAG-COM pointing to a low voltage from the MAF)........ GSMGuy Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Isn't this known as "V6 syndrome" ??? lol Mike Quote
